The Epicurious Artist

September 4, 2012 by Delos_Adm ·

Join us October 3, 4, and 5, 2012 for an All-Inclusive Art and Cooking Instruction Workshop.

Cornwall Inn owner, Stacey Marcin, has teamed up with professional artist, Gay Schempp of Winsted, CT to create the three day workshop, The Epicurious Artist. This weekend is for inquisitive adults who appreciate art, good food and learning new things in a wonderfully inviting environment.

“Mark and I have been considering offering art workshops at the Inn for years but one thing or another always prevented us from pursuing” said Stacey. Recently, however, all the stars aligned in their favor when Stacey met Gay Schempp at a wine and cheese event. A week earlier Stacey called Amy Wynn, Executive Director of Northwest Connecticut Arts Council to discuss the idea of offering art workshops at the Inn to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings and the artistic vibe that exists in Cornwall. Amy immediately thought of Gay Schempp who has been successfully teaching destination art workshops for a decade. The innkeeper and artist met at one of Northwest Connecticut Arts Council’s networking gatherings and discussed the idea.

“Gay Schempp is the perfect person for the job” said Stacey. “Not only is she an extremely talented artist, she understands how to teach all levels and, most importantly, is a people person.” Gay has taught all forms of art around the world. She organized workshops in Japan, Greece, Italy and more locally, in Madison, CT making her an expert with the logistics of offering workshops with full engaging agendas. Currently, Gay teaches private and group lessons at her art studio in Winsted.

It was Gay’s idea to couple art instruction with cooking lessons. She always felt the two go hand-in-hand. “Most of the artists I know have a passion for good food, so why not teach both” said Gay. Having a wonderful chef on staff, this made perfect sense to the innkeepers; thus, The Epicurious Artist was born.
